Quite possibly my favorite post-apocalyptic RPG.

Here's the premise of the game. The characters are NATO soldiers, fighting in Europe following a limited nuclear exchange. For the most part, much of the infrastructure that serves as the framework for civilised society has collapsed. The world, as the players know it, is a place of famine, disease, radiation, marauder bands and roving military units.

The players, as the game's starting scenario details it, has the players as members of the U.S. 5th Infantry Division (Mechanised), the "Red Diamond", who are currently engaged in the final offensive of World War Three (The Twilight War). The Division become encircled at Kalisz, in southern Poland in the late summer of 2000 and are given one final order from Divisional HQ as it was being overrun - "Good luck, you're on your own."

So, the players are stuck in Poland, with only the equipment they have and no prospect of resupply. What is the long-term goal, beyond survival? Settle there or make some attempt to get back Stateside? Or try to get back to (what is rumoured to be) NATO lines in Germany.

The characters are therefore a long way from home, in a foreign land, surrounded by hostile forces and a war-weary populace, fighting off daily attacks from marauders and enduring the ravages of a Warsaw Pact army living off the land.

I have an idea to run a few friends through the published modules on one of our game boards (probably Harv's as it gets most traffic...) Don't know how much interest there would be from the guys (and gal!)

I'd probably start with the introductory adventure, "Escape from Kalisz". Have the players as part of a larger unit and see what's left at the 'end' - that is, when they've escaped the 'Red Diamond's' encirclement...
